About Halmstad University Solar Team
Halmstad University Solar Team is a student driven, non-profit organisation operating from the city of Halmstad, Sweden. We are working toward a sustainable future for the automotive industry and in doing so, developing a solar driven racing car to participate in Bridgestone World Solar Challenge. There we will, along with students representing 35 different nations from across the globe, compete in who has developed the most effective solar powered car, in a race that spans 3000 km through the Australian countryside from Darwin to Adelaide.
Our vision is to win the Bridgestone World Solar Challenge. HUST will do this through creativity, innovation and an extreme dedication.
The project 20/21 was challenging but instructive. Early focus was on developing the concept and the car from 2019, using new knowledge, insight, and technology to present an even better car for the Bridgestone World Solar Challenge 2021. During 2020 the project got updated with new members, new facilities, and a new workshop.
The global pandemic that hit the world in 2020 also affected us and we were forced to overcome new obstacles and create new and innovative ways to continue working towards our goal. The pandemic also left us in uncertainty about what the future would look like but at the same time it strengthened us as a team.
In early 2021 the decision was made that BWSC 2021 cannot be held in a safe and responsible way and thus got canceled. Even though we were disappointed, we fully support their decision as team safety is our highest priority. The cancellation of BWSC 2021 was not the end of this project as we will found new and exciting ways to fulfill the project's goals.
Halmstad University Solar Team has applied new technology combined with experience from the last race to create a brand new design for this year's car. Our final concept will be based around aerodynamic, lightweight material and driver safety.
